Infinity WARD

Conceptualizing a fresh digital home to pitch for Infinity Ward’s website redesign project was a project that spoke directly to my heart as someone who has their roots in the analog. Whilst Infinity Ward has built it’s reputation in designing the engines for some of the world’s favorite video games, the narratives of these games reflect real, human stories and make those stories tangible for gamers. This connection between the real world and the virtual worlds found in these intricate games is the inspiration I drew from to design their site.

ANALOG TEXTURES TO BUILD VIRTUAL WORLDS

I ended up presenting three different approaches, each rooted in some sensibility that inspired the Call of Duty games. In my first concept (left), I wanted to explore dream worlds and our ability to experience them live in playing video games. The second concept (middle) was inspired by the analog textures of real warfare. For this concept I scanned pages from a Field Notes notebook, warping the lines to express the difference between the real and virtual world of warfare. Lastly, the final concept I presented is inspired by graphic novels, the earliest, most analog origination of manifesting dramatic dream worlds and getting to live in them. This concept pulls imagery textured with halftones to convey the traditional graphic novel aesthetic and uses a stark, dark base organized by think, white contrasting lines to articulate the frames of an ink panel.
